Specialty Lower Extremity Prosthetics

Running

The Limb Center helps patients reach their full potential. For some, that may be getting back to jogging, running a marathon, or returning to the track to sprint! Together, we select the best prosthetic foot or knee based on the patients’ running abilities and personal goals.

Activity Specific Prosthetics

At The Limb Center, we have fit a wide range of highly active patients providing appropriate lower limb prostheses for patients who surf, swim, waterski, snowboard, ski, golf, or ride horses, motorcycles, or bicycles. Our clinicians have also successfully fit patients with upper limb prostheses with specific terminal devices for golfing, cycling, bowling, or playing basketball.

Whatever your goals are, we can help you achieve them!

Activity Specific Prosthetics

These are specialized prostheses for those with bilateral above knee limb loss. These prostheses utilize custom sockets mounted directly to the prosthetic feet without prosthetic knees (or the knees are kept locked, and the height shortened to a minimum). This is done to achieve a lower center of gravity for improved balance and greater stability. The prosthetic feet used are small platforms with a rocker sole to deter the amputee from falling.

The foreshortened prostheses allow mobility with relative ease and less energy cost to the amputee. These are generally used as training legs for new amputees to increase their endurance, improve their balance, and develop the core strength necessary to ambulate successfully. For some, they may become their primary prostheses. Prosthetic knees can be added to the foreshortened prostheses as soon as the amputee has progressed to be able to walk with standard, full length prostheses.

Specialty Upper Extremity Prosthetics

Myoelectric Arms

Some upper limb amputees are candidates for myoelectric prosthetic devices. These highly technical and innovative prostheses are provided by clinicians who have had specialized training and certification to be able to fit them to patients.

Numerous prosthetic manufacturers have designed their own components with specific features and functions. Successful users need adequate and precise muscle contractions along with special training much practice to be able to utilize the features as intended and achieve optimal outcomes.

Technology

The Limb Center actively stays up-to-date with the latest state-of-the-art technology and techniques from around the globe, ensuring that our patients always have access to the most advanced solutions.
