Lower Extremity
Each patient requires a unique prosthetic solution depending on their individual physical abilities as well as lifestyle needs. Our team takes the time to get to know you by listening to you and considering all aspects of your life. To achieve the ideal prosthetic outcome, we use a cooperative process of discussing available socket designs, suspension systems, and component options.
We address any concerns that you may have and answer all your questions. Once we understand your goals and expectations, we design a prosthesis with you, selecting the best system specifically for you, using the most appropriate technology. This enables us to provide you with a prosthesis with the best fit and function for your life.

Below Knee (BK) Prosthetics
A transtibial (across or through the tibia) or BK prosthesis requires:
- Prosthetic Foot — The artificial foot which replaces an anatomical foot and ankle joint
- Shin or Pylon — The tubular piece that connects the prosthetic foot to the socket
- Socket — The part of the prosthesis that the residual limb goes into
- Suspension — The particular method of holding the prosthesis onto your limb
Prosthesis Function
Patients with below the knee limb loss require a functional prosthesis to replace a foot and ankle joint. Along with a properly fitting socket and appropriate suspension, the components must be selected carefully so patients can ambulate safely and with the most natural gait possible. There are many manufacturers of prosthetic feet with numerous features to select from. The prosthetist and you will discuss the most suitable foot based on your functional level and the specific activities that you do throughout your day.
